FAQ for Coaching

How Does Coaching Work?

Since the focus of coaching is entirely on the client's agenda (which naturally shifts in every session) each coaching interaction is different.

First, it is important to be aware that "relationship" is the foundation of coaching. The coach is not an expert, authority or healer, but an equal partner with the client in a relationship built on trust and mutual respect.

Although the alliance between a coach and client can vary, classic coaching takes place "in conversation" between two equal individuals. It is up to the coach and client to design the alliance that will most serve and benefit the client's needs and wishes.

A coach understands that all the answers and solutions that the client seeks are within the individual. The coach's skill lies in supporting and guiding the client through this intensive discovery process. By approaching clients in this way, the coach empowers them to access their own resources and creativity and to uncover their full potential

Coaching focuses on the present and the future. It encourages the client to ask the questions, "Who am I? What do I want? and How can I create it?"

The client who enters into coaching must bring with him/her a willingness to engage in both the work and the play, an openness to change and a strong sense of accountability for this journey and its outcomes

Most clients begin to make changes early in the process. It is important to understand, however, that there are no “quick fixes” in coaching. Like anything worthwhile, it takes time and focus. However, for many clients coaching results in profound change.

“The coach's skill lies in supporting and guiding the client through this intensive discovery process.”
